This fifth-smallest county in the state, Dillon County, SC is 407 square miles and borders on the North Carolina line below Robeson and Columbus counties. With approximately 182 farms, more than 91,000 acres of Dillon County land is used to raise livestock, poultry and related products as well as others that grow some of the 30 different crops that thrive in the region. There also is a wealth of timberland, some ready for harvesting and some in growth stage. Almost all hunting in the region is on private land, so the opportunities for hunt clubs are wide open. Common hunting targets are deer, turkeys, feral hogs and quail. The Little Pee Dee State Park provides facilities for fishing, camping and picnics, and the Little Pee Dee River is a great place to catch freshwater bluegill, redbreast, largemouth bass, crappie and catfish. The county is well-known for South of the Border, a resort and major tourist attraction located on I-95 at the North Carolina state line. The county’s public school system is divided into three districts, and higher education is available at Dillon County Technology Center specializing in training in several different fields and North Eastern Technical College’s satellite campus.
