Lee County land and farms are great investments for developers, investors and home buyers because of its mostly rural setting with a skilled manufacturing workforce. Land in Lee County covers 259 square miles and is home to 61,179 residents. It is divided between the Piedmont in the northern part of the county and the Sandhills in the south. Located in the center of the state, it is bordered by Chatham, Harnett and Moore counties. Designated farmland includes 35,170 acres; 56% of the acreage is for cropland, and 27% is in woodlands. Much of the economic base is from manufacturing. Among the top private employers are Coty LLC, Static Control Components Inc., Caterpillar Inc. and Pilgrim's Pride Corp. It is one of the leading brick manufacturing counties in the U.S. Lee County sits in the Triassic Basin, which holds the state's most concentrated reserves of oil and natural gas. Culture and arts draw an increasing number of visitors to such events as the Sanford Pottery Festival and the Sanford Arts and Vine Festival. The county boasts five golf courses, and hunters and fishermen enjoy their chosen sports at Jordan Lake State Park, which also is popular for camping, hiking, swimming and bird watching. Public education is provided for K-12 by Lee County Schools. Higher learning is offered at Central Carolina Community College.
